"Kuala Lumpur From 50th Back Until Now"

As we kow, last two weeks we already celebrated our 50th independant day which is 31 August 2007.Usually we celebrate it at Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur, but this year we celebrate it at Putrajaya Kuala lUmpur.Usually, all Malaysian from all races joining together to celebrate it with waving the "jalur gemilang". Actually, independant day is a day which our country was free from the colonial. We also have fireworks demonstration on midnight 30 August every year at 11,59 pm. As we already celebrate it, we can see many changes take part in this country. One of the place that have change a lot is Kuala Lumpur.
The Kuala Lumpur terms literally means "muddy estuary". Two hundreds years ago, the Chinese tin miners who were prospeting for tin along the Klang river reach the confluence of two river which is Klang and Gombak. In 1860s Kuala Lumpur prospered on the lucrative profits gleaned from selling tin. At this time, thousand of Chinese labourer came to Kuala Lumpur to work at mining lands. With the Chinese at the helm, the area soon will developed from mining village to flourishing town.
Community leaders called Kapitan China were appointed to maintain law and order. The community leaders was Kapitan China Yap Ah Loy which is Hakka Chinese and came to Kuala Lumpur when he was 17 years old.
On 1867 the civil war was left Kuala Lumpur in a shambles and gutted by fire. Kapitan China Yap Ah Loy manage to persuade the miners to remain t Kuala Lumpur and just continue with their activities. Then, Yap Ah Loy became the most prosperous miners, landowners and bussinessman in Kuala Lumpur when tin market improved again. Yap Ah Loy also recognized as a founder of Kuala Lumpur as he built hospitals and roads and developed he city to great height.
On 13 May 1969, racial riot was happened and Kuala Lumpur been worst affected. Two years later, Kuala Lumpur experienced another trauma which is flooding. The worst flood had happened in 1971. The damages was extensive to home, building and disruption of daily living.
Then on 1972, Kuala Lumpur reached a milestone when it was conferred city status by Ynag Dipertuan Agung. And on 1974, it become a Federal Territory and seperated itself from the state of Selangor as benefits a national capital.
But, nowadays, Kuala Lumpur has many changes. Many skyscrappers are built in Kuala Lumpur such as Petronas Twin Tower which is one of the tallest buliding in the world. The other skyscrappers is Kuala Lumpur Tower (which is actually Kuala Lumpur Telecomunication Tower (Telecom)which is situated on Bukit Nanas). The tower observation deck is the main attraction as visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire city. In Kuala Lumpur, there are many facilities provided such as public transport (LRT, bus, taxi, train, flight and so on), public toilet, accomodation and intertaining places.
Kuala Lumpur also become a Metropolitan City. As a capital city, Kuala Lumpur is popular and known around the world.
In conclucion, I want to say that, whoever we are, we are still Malaysian and we have to preserve our independent.Happy 50th indepandent day of Malaysia...Merdeka! Merdeka! Medeka!
